Roadtrippers alternative

Looking for a Roadtrippers alternative?

Roadtrippers is the best-known tool for finding things to see along a drive, with millions of places and curated guides. Its free plan holds one trip with 3 stops. WanderCrew does a different job: it holds the day-by-day plan for a multi-day road trip, with no cap on stops, and puts it on every phone in the car, even with no signal.

The short answer

  • Choose Roadtrippers to discover roadside attractions, parks, and campgrounds along a route, and for RV routing.
  • Choose WanderCrew for the plan itself: a multi-day trip with every drive, stop, hike, and night's stay, which the whole crew can open offline.
  • Many trips can use both. Find the stops in Roadtrippers or a map app, then lay out the days in WanderCrew.

When Roadtrippers is the better fit

If you know the start and the end but not much in between, Roadtrippers is built for you. It searches millions of places along a route, from national parks to odd roadside attractions, and its guides are a good way to find the stops worth pulling over for. RV drivers get routing that accounts for their rig. For a day trip or a drive with a handful of stops, its free plan may be all you need.

When WanderCrew is the better fit

Long road trips aren't one route. Our own Vegas to Denver trip ran 16 days through five national parks, with 90 stops, hikes, and places to eat, and beds in nine different towns. In WanderCrew each day holds its drive, its stops along the way, its hikes with a crowd level, and where the crew sleeps, and there's no count to watch.

The trip is saved on every phone in the car, so the passenger can read out what's next on the stretches with no service. The Today screen shows only today, and any stop opens in your maps app for directions.

Quick answers

Questions about switching from Roadtrippers

How many stops can I add to Roadtrippers for free?
As of September 2026, Roadtrippers' free plan holds one saved trip with up to 3 stops. Paid memberships raise that to 20, 50, or 150 stops per trip, and offline maps come with the Premium membership.
What's a good free Roadtrippers alternative?
For finding stops along a route, Google Maps and Apple Maps can plan a drive with several stops for free. For the day-by-day plan itself, WanderCrew is free on your phone with unlimited trips and no cap on stops, and the whole trip works with no signal. Sharing a trip with your crew needs the host's Crew plan.
Does WanderCrew find places along my route like Roadtrippers?
No. WanderCrew doesn't suggest attractions, campgrounds, or restaurants. You and your crew add the stops, hikes, and places to eat you've found. If discovery is the hard part of your trip, Roadtrippers is built for it.
Does WanderCrew have RV routing or turn-by-turn directions?
No. Tap any stop or stay and it opens in your phone's maps app for directions: Apple Maps on iPhone and your default maps app on Android. For RV-safe routing, use a dedicated tool like Roadtrippers.
Can my crew plan a road trip together in WanderCrew?
Yes. The host subscribes to the Crew plan and invites up to 20 people, who join with free accounts. Editors change the plan, everyone can tick the shared packing list and keep a private list of their own, and recent changes shows who changed what.
