Road trip planner
A road trip planner for multi-day drives.
WanderCrew is a road trip planner for trips measured in days, not hours. Each day holds the drive, the stops along the way, the hikes, and where you sleep, and the whole route draws as a map. On the road, the app opens on today with directions to the next stop, no signal required.

A list of saved places tells you where you want to go. It doesn't tell you which day you're going, how long the drive is, or where you're sleeping after. A road trip longer than a weekend needs those answers more than it needs another pin.
In WanderCrew, every day of the trip holds:
- A title and a drive note. "Zion → Bryce Canyon," and in one line, "~1.5–2 hrs via Hwy 9/89."
- Stops along the way. Sights, bakeries, places to eat, and the rare finds you can't get back home, each with a note on why it's worth pulling over.
- Hikes with a crowd level. Quiet, moderate, or busy, so you can tell the famous trail from the one with fewer footprints.
- Where you sleep. Read the stays in order and you have the route.
An example: 16 days from Vegas to Denver
The trip we're planning now is a 16-day drive from Las Vegas to Denver, through Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Canyonlands, and Dinosaur National Monument. The plan has 23 hikes: 11 marked quiet, 7 moderate, and 5 busy. It groups the days into six zones, and each zone gets its own color on the day cards and on the route map.
- Canyon country · Days 1–4
- Springdale, then Bryce Canyon City or Tropic, Utah
- Grand Staircase · Days 5–6
- Boulder, Utah, then over Boulder Mountain to Moab
- Moab redrock · Days 7–10
- Four nights in Moab for Arches, Canyonlands, and Dead Horse Point
- Uinta Basin · Days 11–13
- Vernal, Utah, for Dinosaur National Monument, then Rock Springs, Wyoming
- Wyoming · Day 14
- Cheyenne, by way of Laramie
- Front Range · Days 15–16
- Denver, where the rental car goes back
Day 5 is a short driving day on purpose, and Days 2 and 4 have no driving at all. Once the days are laid out, those rhythms are easy to see, and easy to fix.
On the road
When the trip starts, WanderCrew opens on the Today screen. It shows what's up next, where you're sleeping tonight, and what the crew has been adding. Check off stops as you go, and add a note to any of them.
The navigation view lights up today's leg of the route with where you are on it, and the rest of the trip fades back. When you need turn-by-turn directions, tap the stop or the night's stay and it opens in Apple Maps on iPhone or your default maps app on Android.
Everything on the Today screen and in the plan is saved on your phone, so it still opens in a canyon with no bars. What to save before you lose signal.
What it isn't
- Not a navigation app. Apple Maps and Google Maps already do turn-by-turn well, so WanderCrew hands off to them.
- Not a route optimizer. It won't reorder your stops. You pick the order, and the plan reflects it.
- Not a booking site. Reserve lodging and permits where you normally do, then add the confirmations to the day.
- Not a gas or charging finder. Use your maps app for that, and note long empty stretches in the drive note.
Quick answers
Questions about planning a road trip
- What's a good app for planning a multi-day road trip?
- Different apps solve different parts. Roadtrippers is built for finding things to see along a route. Google Maps and Apple Maps handle turn-by-turn directions. WanderCrew is for the day-by-day plan: where you drive each day, the stops and hikes along the way, where you sleep each night, and a Today screen that works with no signal. Its beta opens in fall 2026 on iOS and Android.
- Does WanderCrew plan the route for me?
- No. You and your crew decide where to go and where to sleep, and WanderCrew draws the route and organizes it by day. It doesn't reorder stops or suggest routes.
- Does WanderCrew give turn-by-turn directions?
- No. Tap any stop or stay and it opens in your phone's maps app for directions: Apple Maps on iPhone, and your default maps app on Android. WanderCrew's navigation view shows today's leg of the route and where you are on it.
- Can I plan a road trip with friends in more than one car?
- Yes. Everyone on the trip has the same plan on their own phone, including the stops, where you sleep, and the notes, and it opens with no signal. For the handoffs between cars, agree on the next stop and a regroup time before you lose signal.
- Does the road trip planner work offline?
- Yes. The whole trip is saved on your phone when you open it, so the plan, the map, the Today screen, notes, and the packing list work with no signal, and you can keep editing.
- Can I track road trip costs?
- WanderCrew has a cost-per-person row for each day with a running total, so you can see what the trip costs before you go. It doesn't look up gas prices or split expenses between people.
